Demand
Demand captures anticipated demand for new electricity production to support population and economic growth, as well as indicators that express interest in and commitment to decarbonization and inclusion of nuclear energy as part of the decarbonization process. Use 'Demand' to assess predicted population growth, economic growth, future electricity demand, the scale of a nation's climate goals and action taken to meet those goals, and intention to include nuclear energy as part of a clean energy transition.
Electric Energy Volatility
Electric energy volatility refers to fluctuations in the price, supply, or demand for electric energy over a specific period. These variations can result from changes in market dynamics, weather conditions, fuel costs, grid reliability, regulatory policies, or shifts in consumer usage patterns.
Components
Access to Electricity
Percent of population with access to electricity. For countries without data the regional/income level average was used. Countries in which a large percentage of the population does not have access to electricity would benefit from more generating capacity.
Grid Reliability
Percent of annual electricity sales that were lost due to power outage. For countries without data the regional/income level average was used. If a country's grid experiences frequent power outages, it could benefit from additional generating capacity, particularly baseload power.
Intermittent Access
Intermittent electric energy generation types include solar, wind, tidal (wave) and hydro power. Countries with a higher share of intermittent sources of electricity generation will also need base load power sources, such as nuclear.
