WTO Membership
The World Trade Organization is an international institution that ensures that the international trading system functions efficiently and freely. The WTO facilitates global trade and investment by adopting transparent and predictable laws and regulations that govern trade and investment flows. Each member country is granted Most Favored Nation (MFN) status, meaning that it cannot treat one member country better or worse than another. WTO membership demonstrates a country's willingness and ability to engage in the global economy.

A trade agreement is a formal arrangement between two or more countries to reduce barriers to trade and promote trade relations between or among them.
Regional Trade Agreements
Reciprocal preferential trade agreements between two or more countries. RTAs have risen in number and reach over the years, including a notable increase in large multilateral agreements. Non-discrimination among trading partners is one of the core principles of the WTO; however, the WTO supports regional and bilateral agreements. Regional trade agreements demonstrate a country's willingness and ability to engage in the global economy.

The United States has tax treaties with a number of foreign countries. Under these treaties, residents of foreign countries are taxed at a reduced rate, or are exempt from U.S. taxes on certain items of income they receive from sources within the United States. These reduced rates and exemptions vary among countries and specific items of income. Tax Competitiveness
Competitive tax policies maintains low marginal tax rates in order to maximize rate of return on investments. Taxation is integral to strengthening the effective functioning of the state and to the social contract between governments and citizens. Large investment projects are often accompanied by large tax obligations. It is important to know how competitive and stable the tax system in a country is prior to making a large investment to enure that the investment is viable in the long-term.

A list of U.S. sanctions administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) in the Deptartment of the Treasury. The presence of anctions on individuals, entities, and jurisdictions indicates their actions contradict U.S. foreign policy or national security goals.
